Did you know? A free SSL wildcard certificate from DigiCert is included in all IONOS hosting packages and domains.
Encrypted data transmission using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a central element of Internet security. Two basic steps are necessary to use SSL encryption with your own website:
- First, enable SSL in your hosting package by securing your domain with an SSL Certificate.
- Then, force SSL encryption on all pages by fully switching your site to HTTPS.
Secure Your Domain with an SSL Certificate
Activate the SSL certificate in IONOS and secure your domain within a few clicks.

Further information about the certificates can be found at https://www.ionos.com/help/ssl-certificates/
Switch Your Website to HTTPS
After you have activated the SSL certificate, you should make sure that SSL encryption is used by default. To do this, you must convert your website to HTTPS. Select the desired instructions:
- WordPress (Unmanaged)
- Joomla!
- PrestaShop
- Magento
- Typo3
- Plesk
- Managed Cloud Hosting
You created and uploaded your website on your computer? To learn how to convert a website created with Netobjects Fusion or an HTML editor to HTTPS, see the article Enforce HTTPS (SSL) for a Website.
If you have MyWebsite, Online Store, or Managed WordPress, you don't have to do anything since your website is automatically prepared to use SSL when the certificate is activated.
