Software RAID

In a Software RAID, the main processor is responsible for distributing the data and calculating the checksums. For this reason, partitions are created on the connected hard disks. These are then logically linked as md (Multiple Device).

The advantage of a software RAID is that no special RAID controller is required. The control is taken over by the RAID software, which is either a part of the operating system or will be installed later.
