Setting Up MySQL or MariaDB Databases in Your IONOS Account
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
For Linux and Windows Web Hosting and Managed Dedicated Server packages
MySQL and MariaDB are powerful database management systems that are often used in conjunction with web applications. You can create a database with only a few mouse clicks right in your IONOS account.
MariaDB is fully compatible with MySQL considering it was developed as an open-source MySQL replacement using the same code base. MariaDB is now the default setting for new databases in IONOS web hosting packages. You can, of course, continue to create MySQL databases.
- Log in to your IONOS account.
- Click Menu > Hosting in the title bar. If you have multiple contracts, select the desired Hosting contract.
On the Databases tile, click Create Database.
If you are only offered the Manage action at this point, select it and then click Create Database on the next page.
You can now choose between MariaDB and MySQL as database type. To change the database type, click on the selection box and then select the desired type. The default setting is MariaDB.
Optional: Enter a description text.
Set the desired password.
Please Note
If you lose the password for a database, you cannot recover it. However, you can always set a new password in your IONOS account.
To create the database, click Save.
The details of your database will be displayed, and the database will finish being set up. This may take a moment.
In the database details section, you can find all of the information you need to configure your application for accessing the database. You can also access this information at any time by clicking on the desired database in the overview of your databases.
