With the integrated backup function of HiDrive, you can create backups of the cloud storage separately for each user on a regular basis if required. If a file is accidentally deleted from HiDrive, it can be easily restored from the backup. This article explains how to do this.
Please note that there are separate articles for backups of a Plesk environment and a QNAP NAS.
Creating a HiDrive Backup (Cloud Storage)
- Open the HiDrive web app in your browser.
- Select Backups in the left menu bar.
- Set the Frequency and Retention Time of your backup plan under Automatic backups (recommended).
- Start the backup process by clicking Create Backup. Backups already created will be displayed under All Backups.
- Optional: Replace the suggested name for the backup.
Restoring a HiDrive Backup (Cloud Storage)
To restore a created backup in whole or in part:
- Open the HiDrive web app in your browser.
- Select Backups in the left menu bar.
- In All backups > Selection field: Show backup of the desired user.
- Click on the Restore icon. The objects contained in the backup are displayed.
- Select the objects you want to restore.
- Decide whether you want to restore the selected objects to HiDrive (Restore to... ) or to your device (Download).
Backup Size and Scope
By default, HiDrive backs up all content in the Personal and Shared sections.
After the first complete backup, only the changes or newly added files/folders are backed up in order to save storage space (incremental backup). In case of a restore, the entire collection of data from the corresponding backup time is nevertheless restored.
